Large Language Models for Assisting American College Applications
Researchers' new system tackles fragmented forms and ambiguous questions with a 'mapping-first' AI paradigm.
A research team led by Zhengliang Liu has developed EZCollegeApp, an open-source LLM-powered system that assists with U.S. college applications. It uses a novel 'mapping-first' architecture to understand complex forms, grounds answers in official admissions documents via RAG, and provides suggestions through a human-in-the-loop chatbot interface. Users maintain full control, with the AI structuring information and cross-referencing sources without automated submission. The code is available on GitHub.
Why It Matters
It could democratize access to higher education by automating the tedious, knowledge-intensive parts of the application process.
