Jensen Huang: AI is shifting engineers from coding to building agents

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated in a recent interview that AI is transforming software engineering, creating a new category of technical skills around 'agentic systems.' Huang revealed that Nvidia engineers now prefer building AI agents over writing traditional Python code. 'If you ask me, every one of my software engineers prefers to be building agents than to be writing Python code,' he said. He explained that AI eliminates mundane coding tasks, allowing engineers to focus on designing AI systems, creating benchmarks, and developing safety guardrails. Huang emphasized that this shift requires imagination and creativity rather than manual coding.

The broader industry reflects this trend. Nvidia cited stronger-than-expected AI infrastructure demand and raised its long-term growth outlook. AWS introduced new AI products and expanded partnerships, including access to OpenAI models, as its CEO predicted 'everything is going to be remade' by AI. Microsoft focused on expanding AI infrastructure for productivity, coding, and cybersecurity, reporting that its AI business surpassed $37 billion in annual recurring revenue. These developments signal a fundamental shift in how software is built and deployed, with AI agents becoming central to enterprise operations.
