Apple's New Siri AI Arrives on iPhone — Plus 120 Security Fixes

After months of testing, Apple's iOS 27 is now the official software for the iPhone. The star of the show is Siri AI — a rebuilt version of the voice assistant that works like ChatGPT or Gemini. You can ask it questions, give it instructions, and hold an actual conversation. The difference is that Siri lives inside your phone, so it can also adjust your settings, open apps, and handle everyday tasks on your device. Apple says this version is far more accurate than the old Siri, which often misheard people or simply couldn't answer.

To try it, go to Settings, tap Siri, and choose "Try Siri AI (Beta)." It's rolling out now in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish arriving in October. Be aware that Apple is putting usage limits on the AI features, so heavy users may hit a ceiling. The update also brings smaller perks: new photo editing controls, easier location sharing, redesigned Screen Time with child safety settings, better Maps visuals, and a way to swap out weak passwords.

Security is the quieter but arguably bigger story. iOS 27 patches more than 120 vulnerabilities — flaws that could have let attackers install malware, steal personal data, or take control of an unpatched phone. If your device can't run iOS 27, Apple still released version 26.7, which fixes nearly 80 security problems and adds new emoji, Apple Music features, and better keyboard accuracy.

Not every device qualifies. Left behind are the iPhone X, XR, XS, XS Max, and SE (2nd generation), along with several older iPads and Macs. To update, open Settings, tap General, then Software Update. If your device supports version 27, tap "Upgrade Now." If not, take 26.7 — either way, don't skip it.
