Amazon QuickSight's Mobile Layout auto-optimizes dashboards for phones
No coding needed: QuickSight dashboards now automatically render as touch-friendly single-column views.
Amazon QuickSight has launched Mobile Layout for Free Form dashboards, a feature that automatically transforms complex desktop dashboards into touch-optimized, single-column experiences on mobile devices. When a reader opens a Free Form dashboard on a phone or tablet, QuickSight detects the small viewport and automatically renders the dashboard as a vertically scrollable feed of visuals, each filling the screen width while preserving their original aspect ratios. No setup, migration, or action is required from authors, administrators, or readers—the feature works out of the box for all existing Free Form dashboards across all supported AWS Regions.
The new Mobile Layout includes several key capabilities. Continuous scroll stacks visuals in a single column, eliminating the need for pinch-to-zoom or horizontal scrolling. Group-aware rendering ensures that overlapping visuals (e.g., KPIs layered on a colored background) remain together as a single unit, maintaining the original design intent. Readers using the Quick mobile app can toggle between Mobile view and Desktop view via a built-in view switcher; on mobile web browsers, portrait orientation shows the mobile experience while landscape shows the desktop version. Performance is improved through an optimized rendering path that reduces resource consumption, allowing dashboards that previously struggled on phones to load and scroll smoothly. For authors who use overlapping visuals, organizing those elements into Groups can further polish the mobile experience, but it is optional.
- Mobile Layout is automatic for all Free Form dashboards—no author or admin setup required.
- Dashboards render as a single-column, continuous scroll feed with preserved aspect ratios and touch-friendly sizing.
- Readers can toggle between Mobile and Desktop views in the Quick mobile app; web browsers use orientation-based switching.
