OpenAI has unveiled something called 'dots' — a new kind of AI assistant built to keep working on your projects instead of waiting for you to type a question. Most AI tools today are like a very fast intern at a desk: helpful, but only when you ask. Dots are meant to be the opposite. OpenAI describes them as 'proactive,' meaning they can pick up a task, keep it moving across days or weeks, and come back to you when a decision is needed.

So what does that actually change? Picture planning a trip, chasing a refund, or pulling together a report. Today you'd open a chat, explain everything, get an answer, then start over tomorrow because the AI forgot. A dot is supposed to remember the whole thread and keep pushing it forward — more like a colleague who owns the project than a search box you keep re-typing into.
