AWS launches AssetsAsBundle APIs for Amazon QuickSight backup strategy
Protect BI dashboards from accidental deletion with new automation tool.
AWS has released the first part of a two-part technical series outlining a backup and restore strategy for Amazon QuickSight BI assets. QuickSight, an AI-powered business intelligence service within the Amazon Quick digital workspace, enables natural language queries and interactive dashboards. The post introduces the AssetsAsBundle APIs — a new set of export tools that let teams programmatically back up dashboards, analyses, datasets, and data sources. A ready-to-use sample automation tool is provided to accelerate adoption. Part 2 will cover restoration workflows using those backups.
The guide emphasizes the importance of backup for regulated industries like financial services and healthcare, citing data loss prevention, compliance with Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), audit trails, and workload resiliency. QuickSight’s architecture relies on the SPICE in-memory engine with high availability across multiple Availability Zones, but user identity management is tied to a single primary Region (e.g., us-east-1). This regional dependency means a full disaster recovery plan must account for multi-Region strategies. The backup APIs enable automated exports that can be stored in separate Regions, supporting business continuity plans.
- AssetsAsBundle APIs allow programmatic backup of QuickSight dashboards, analyses, datasets, and data sources.
- Backup strategy critical for regulated industries (financial, healthcare) to meet RPO/RTO and audit requirements.
- QuickSight user identity is Region-bound; cross-Region backups are needed for comprehensive disaster recovery.
Why It Matters
BI teams can now automate QuickSight backups to prevent data loss and meet compliance in regulated industries.
