Researchers have developed a new metric, the Localized Attack Vulnerability Index (LAVI), to predict how much damage a targeted attack will cause in a network. Unlike standard measures, LAVI accounts for how damage spreads from a single starting point. It proved more accurate than traditional centrality metrics in tests on both synthetic and real-world networks, showing that a node's structural position is key to understanding its vulnerability to cascading failures.
