Ideogram 4 rivals NB and GPT Image quality as open-source v1 model
2MP images in 2 minutes on a 4080 with no safety filter blocks
Ideogram is the first open model since Z-Image that genuinely caught my attention. It's the closest we've gotten to NB or GPT Image quality, sometimes even better with the right prompting. Running on a 4080, 2MP images at 20 steps take ~2 minutes; 1MP at 12 steps takes ~30 seconds. JSON prompting gives fine-grained control, and you can use a visual node or LLM to avoid writing JSON by hand. The safety filter is bypassable with a node. No LoRAs or custom nodes
- Ideogram 4 matches or exceeds closed models like NB and GPT Image in quality, especially with careful prompting.
- On a 4080, 2MP images in ~2 min (20 steps); 1MP in ~30 sec (12 steps); 3090/5070 users reporting 15 min have setup issues.
- JSON prompting enables deliberate scene layout; safety filter bypassed with Kijai’s CFG override node, no blocked images.
Why It Matters
Open-source image generation now rivals closed models at v1, with control and speed professionals need.
