Sonos launches public beta for app overhaul with iOS and Android UI fixes
Volume controls fixed, navigation streamlined, and OS-specific designs finally unified.
Sonos is rolling out a public beta for its app, nearly two years after the disastrous 2024 overhaul that caused buggy controls and vanishing systems. The company has focused on app stability first, and now turns to user experience and design. On iOS, the biggest changes include left-to-right navigation to mimic standard app behavior, updated volume controls (tap bottom-left to mute, bottom-right for fine-grained control, with a new decrease-volume icon instead of mute). The design also adopts Apple's Liquid Glass aesthetic with smoother animations and album-art-adaptive backgrounds. Android users get a slimmer miniplayer, a new navigation bar with Home, System, and Search tabs, and the Search moved from above the miniplayer to allow unobstructed scrolling. However, the volume controls are not yet available on Android, and some iOS features are exclusive. CEO Tom Conrad confirmed the beta can be toggled on/off throughout testing. Users can opt in via Settings > Enable Improved Navigation.
