MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ beats Legion Go with better performance and ergonomics
The sequel delivers sustained power, Xbox-inspired comfort, and top-tier cooling.
The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ is a dramatic upgrade over its predecessor, addressing nearly every flaw of the original handheld. Sporting a new Intel Arc G-Series processor, it delivers stronger sustained performance that outpaces the Legion Go, especially during long gaming sessions. The design borrows heavily from the Xbox Series X controller: flared handles, laser-etched texture for grip, and evenly spaced buttons. MSI also improved weight distribution so the device feels lighter than its size suggests, and added a metal dome directional pad for better input accuracy. Hall Effect analog sticks and triggers ensure long-term reliability, while the 8-inch Full HD 120Hz IPS display remains vibrant and smooth.
On the downside, the Claw 8 EX still runs Windows 11, which introduces performance hiccups and software quirks—like the Quick Menu button causing the cursor to jump unexpectedly. The device is also very expensive. Still, the combination of excellent ergonomics, effective cooling, and a powerful new chip makes this MSI’s best handheld yet, and a serious competitor to the Legion Go and ASUS ROG Ally.
- Intel Arc G-Series processor delivers sustained performance that beats the Legion Go
- Xbox-inspired ergonomics with flared handles, non-slip texture, and metal dome D-pad
- 8-inch Full HD 120Hz display, Hall Effect controls, but Windows 11 bugs persist
