I made a tool to bring LessWrong everywhere around the web

A developer known as sleno has launched Margin.chat, a novel Chrome extension designed to overlay a persistent, community-driven comment section onto any webpage on the internet. The tool effectively decouples discussion from platform-specific silos, allowing users to see and participate in conversations directly on the source material, whether it's a news article, a product page, or a PDF. The core functionality is triggered via a keyboard shortcut (CMD+SHIFT+M) or a pinned browser icon, pulling up a sidebar where all community notes and threads for that specific URL are displayed.

Beyond simple page-level comments, Margin.chat introduces the concept of curated communities. Users can create or join these groups, which act as filters, showing only the annotations and discussions from trusted or like-minded individuals across the web. This addresses information overload and allows for specialized discourse—imagine a community of AI researchers annotating technical papers or a book club discussing various review sites. Notably, the tool is free and emphasizes low-friction access; users can lurk and read all public comments without even creating an account, lowering the barrier to discovery.

The project, first shared with the LessWrong community, represents a shift towards a more decentralized, user-layer social web.
