Thai school shooting kills 9, gunman is 14-year-old student

Thailand is reeling from its deadliest mass shooting in four years after a 14-year-old allegedly killed his grandparents at dawn, then traveled 18km by public bus to Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bangkok's outskirts. Armed with a gun, he began shooting just before 10am, eventually killing three teachers and two school officials before turning the weapon on himself. The rampage left a total of nine dead and 23 wounded, including students and staff.

Fourteen-year-old student Khim, speaking under a nickname, described the terror inside the classroom: after confirming via a messaging group that an active shooter was in the building, students barricaded the door with desks, switched off the lights, and huddled together near the windows for around 40 minutes. Khim recalled hearing multiple gunshots and feeling they might not survive. The attack, which unfolded in a nation with one of Southeast Asia's highest rates of civilian gun ownership, has reignited urgent calls for stricter firearms control and increased school security measures across Thailand.
