HPE unveils unified private cloud for AI with Morpheus and Zerto

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has relaunched its private cloud portfolio as a single, integrated platform for the AI era. Dubbed the fourth-generation private cloud, HPE Private Cloud collapses six previous SKUs (Private Cloud Business Edition, Private Cloud Enterprise, SimpliVity, and others) into three form factors: the hyperconverged PC 1000, the disaggregated PC 3000 for core data centers, and the fully managed PC 7000 as-a-service offering. The unifying layer is HPE Morpheus Enterprise, which provides a multi-hypervisor control plane for self-service provisioning, cost controls, and automation across VMs, Kubernetes, and AI workloads. HPE is explicitly targeting enterprises frustrated by Broadcom's VMware price hikes, offering a pragmatic migration path via Zerto 10.9—which continuously replicates workloads and orchestrates failover between VMware and HPE platforms, allowing customers to prove resilience before cutting over.

The announcement also includes HPE Alletra MP storage arrays, but notably omits any deep integration with Juniper Networks (which HPE acquired in 2025). The networking piece remains strategically vague, suggesting HPE is keeping Juniper as a separate lane for now, possibly to avoid alienating existing Cisco and Arista customers. For buyers, the key takeaway is that HPE is betting on a single operating model for all infrastructure types—making it easier to run AI workloads alongside traditional VMs without stitching together multiple vendor stacks. This matters because most enterprises are repatriating workloads from public cloud and need to operationalize AI quickly, but have been held back by brittle VM-centric architectures. HPE Private Cloud is designed to feel like cloud but run where data lives, with a unified pane of glass for developers, platform teams, and ops.
