Microsoft's Copilot key can be remapped to Right Ctrl or Context menu

Microsoft introduced a dedicated Copilot key on its Copilot+ PCs and later on many Windows laptops, positioning it as a quick launch for its AI assistant. However, the key often replaces the Right Ctrl or Context menu key, causing inconvenience for users who rely on those keys for shortcuts or accessibility. In a support article, Microsoft acknowledged this and announced an upcoming Windows 11 update that will let users remap the key to Right Ctrl or Context menu.

Until that update arrives, users have a couple of ways to repurpose the key. Windows Settings (under Bluetooth & devices > Keyboard > Customize Copilot key) currently offers only Search as an alternative to Copilot. For more options, third-party tools like PowerToys or AutoHotkey can remap the key to any function, restoring lost productivity. As AI keys become more common on keyboards, user control over their function is increasingly important.
