Zorin OS, a Linux distribution built on Ubuntu, offers a GNOME desktop with a polished makeover. Out of the box, the free version includes four layouts, none of which are Windows 11-like. The Pro version ($47.99) provides a dedicated Windows 11 layout, but the license must be repurchased for each major upgrade (e.g., version 18 to 19). However, free users can manually tweak a layout to closely resemble Windows 11 without spending a dime.
According to ZDNET's Jack Wallen, the process starts with opening the Zorin Appearance app and selecting the top-right layout (bottom panel, right-side desktop menu). Then, right-click the panel, open Taskbar Settings, and adjust border radius to zero (square corners), set panel length to 100%, and configure the left and center boxes to use Monitor Center for buttons like Show Applications, Taskbar, and Desktop. Optionally, install the WeatherPanel GNOME extension via the Extensions app and set a Windows 11 wallpaper. This achieves a Windows 11 look for free, though the Pro route remains the simplest option.
