Ninth Wave's New AI Connects Your Bank to Money Apps Faster
Your banking apps could link up in days instead of weeks.
Every time you link your bank account to a budgeting app, a payment service, or accounting software, someone has to build a technical bridge between the two. That's harder than it sounds. Each bank names its data fields differently and formats them its own way, so matching everything up has traditionally taken weeks of specialist effort, endless email threads, and messy spreadsheets.
Ninth Wave is the middleman that does this work, sitting between banks and popular apps like Plaid, Venmo, QuickBooks, Xero, and Sage. To speed things up, it built Compass, an AI assistant running on Amazon Bedrock, Amazon's paid service for running AI models. Compass uses several specialized AI "agents" (AI that can take actions on its own) rather than one. One agent figures out what you're asking, then hands the job to a specialist — one checks the bank's connections, another matches up field names, another answers questions.
Why bother splitting it up? Ninth Wave tested a single AI doing everything and found it was simpler but less accurate. Separate helpers keep each one focused and make the results more reliable. Just as important, each bank's information stays walled off — one bank's data never leaks into another bank's session. The system also follows the financial industry's strict security rules, including SOC 2 and PCI DSS, which are independent audits proving a company handles sensitive data safely.
For you, the payoff is practical. Faster onboarding means the apps you already use can add more banks sooner, with fewer broken connections and fewer frustrating "unable to link account" errors. It's also a small preview of where finance is heading: AI quietly doing the back-office plumbing so the tools in your pocket just work.
- Compass uses several AI helpers instead of one, so each handles a single job and gets it right more often.
- Setup work that took weeks of specialist effort and email chains can now move much faster.
- Each bank's data stays completely separate, and the system meets SOC 2 and PCI DSS financial security standards.
Why It Matters
Faster bank connections mean fewer broken app links and quicker access to new money tools for you.
