How I scan documents with my Android phone and turn them into PDFs for free - it's easy

No third-party apps needed – scan documents directly from Google Drive in seconds.

Deep Dive

Google Drive's preinstalled scanner on Android eliminates the need for third-party document scanning apps, reducing security risks and clutter. The process: open Drive, tap the + button, select Scan from the menu, point the camera at each page – holding the phone horizontally for best results – and scan as many pages as needed. After capturing all pages, tap the arrow to proceed.

On the enhancement screen, you can apply filters to remove shadows, crop, rotate, or use a cleaning tool to improve clarity. Tap Next, name the file, ensure PDF is selected as the format, choose a destination folder in Drive, and upload. The entire workflow is free, built-in, and requires no additional downloads. It's ideal for quickly digitizing receipts, contracts, or notes without exposing your device to potentially malicious apps.
