Honor Launches Robot Phone in China With a 200MP Moving Camera

Honor has launched its Robot Phone in China, a flagship Android device built around a motorized 200-megapixel gimbal camera that can rise above the phone, pan, tilt, rotate, and track subjects for stabilized footage. Priced from 9,999 yuan (about $1,480) for 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, with a 16GB/1TB model at 12,999 yuan (about $1,930), it targets vloggers, livestreamers, and mobile filmmakers. The camera system includes a 200MP gimbal main camera, a 200MP periscope telephoto with 2.7x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide, plus 4K video and AI auto-framing. Honor says the titanium gimbal uses more than 100 precision components and over 100 patents, and it fits inside a 9.6mm body. The phone also packs a 6.3-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED display with up to 6,800 nits peak brightness, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, up to 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and a 7,060mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. A partnership with ARRI brings LogC3 recording, ARRI Looks, LUT monitoring, and a dedicated Cinema Mode. The robotic camera works with Honor’s Yoyo AI assistant, which can recognize facial expressions and perform gestures like nodding and moving to music. Honor CEO James Li said at the launch, “In the age of AI, not every phone should be just ‘another black slab.’” Open sales in China begin Aug. 18, with no announced international release. The trade-off is complexity: moving mechanical parts raise durability and repair concerns, and the phone carries an IP54 rating only when the gimbal is stowed.
