Hong Kong is pushing a major digital education overhaul. The Curriculum Development Council released the Blueprint for Digital Education Development in Primary and Secondary Schools on Wednesday, mandating that all teachers complete at least 30 hours of digital education training within each three-year professional development cycle (totaling 150 hours). The training will cover AI literacy, integrating AI into subject teaching, and AI leadership, delivered by the Education Bureau, professional organizations, and universities.
Schools will also be required to incorporate digital elements into their annual development plans, and a new innovation and technology (I&T) curriculum will be rolled out for students. Professor Isabella Poon Wai-yin, council chairwoman, said digital education is vital to competitiveness. The move aims to equip teachers and students with AI skills amid global tech adoption.
