Lalamove and EY launch drone logistics in Hong Kong
Hong Kong's Lalamove teams with EY to test 4.5kg-capacity drones for 12km trips.
Hong Kong-based delivery giant Lalamove and professional services firm EY have launched a pilot program to integrate drone logistics into their operations, marking a strategic move toward shaping the city's 'low-altitude economy'. The collaboration leverages Lalamove's existing logistics platform with EY's expertise in planning, risk advisory, and regulatory compliance.
The initiative is testing drones from Ningbo-based Yixin Smart Technology, which can carry packages up to 4.5kg and travel distances of 12km to 18km. These drones are part of a government-approved regulatory sandbox project aimed at accelerating the development of low-altitude transport solutions. With 38 pilot projects now approved out of 72 applications, the government is actively fostering innovation in this emerging sector. Lalamove emphasized that its human driver network remains central to operations, positioning drones as a complementary solution rather than a replacement.
- Lalamove and EY are piloting drone deliveries using Yixin Smart Technology's drones (4.5kg payload, 12-18km range)
- The project is part of Hong Kong’s regulatory sandbox for low-altitude economy development, with 38 approved pilots
- Lalamove’s human drivers remain the core of operations, with drones serving as an additional delivery method
Why It Matters
Expands logistics options with faster, last-mile drone deliveries while maintaining human-centric operations.
