Hong Kong Tourism Board launches summer deals for dragon boat race 50th
Citywide discounts and events aim to attract overnight visitors with HK$20M in deals
The Hong Kong Tourism Board will launch a summer campaign featuring citywide discounts and events to mark the 50th anniversary of the international dragon boat races at the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. Announced on Tuesday, the 'Hong Kong Summer Fun' campaign opens with the Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, running from June 19 to July 1. Board chairman Peter Lam Kin-ngok said the promotion aims to leverage mega-events to boost peak summer tourism, specifically attracting more overnight visitors and increasing consumption across multiple sectors. The programme offers HK$20 million in deals to incentivize longer stays and higher spending.
Visitors can experience interactive attractions including themed photo spots, virtual-reality dragon boat paddling, and a dedicated race broadcast zone. Cultural workshops, traditional performances, and a food lane at Salisbury Garden and along the Avenue of Stars will run throughout the 13-day event. The initiative builds on Hong Kong's strategy of using large-scale events to rejuvenate its tourism industry post-pandemic, with the dragon boat races serving as a flagship draw for both local and international travelers.
