Google's new feature reveals which ads are created with AI

Ads made with AI now get a disclosure badge in your settings.

Deep Dive

Google is rolling out a transparency feature for its 'My Ad Center' panel that will let users see if an ad was created or altered using AI. The disclosure appears when you click the three-dot menu or the info icon on any ad appearing on Google Search, YouTube, and Google Discover. Previously, only election ads required such a label.

For advertisers who use Google’s own generative AI advertising tools—like product photo generation or synthetic backgrounds—the disclosure will be automatically applied. However, if the ad was produced using third-party AI tools, the advertiser must manually enable a new control to indicate that AI was involved. Google will not independently verify these claims. In some jurisdictions, local laws may also require labeling of AI-generated ad content.

Key Points
  • Google adds 'How this ad was made' option in My Ad Center, accessed via three-dot menu or info icon.
  • Ads made with Google's own generative AI tools get automatic disclosure; third-party AI ads require manual opt-in.
  • Google does not verify if an advertiser correctly flags AI involvement; local laws may mandate labeling in some markets.

Why It Matters

Ads using AI can mislead consumers; this disclosure helps users make informed decisions about synthetic content.
