Google's agentic Search runs AI tasks without you, starting this summer
Google turns Search into a 24/7 personal assistant that works even while you sleep.
At Google I/O, the company announced a major upgrade to Search that transforms it into a platform for AI agents. Users can now create, customize, and manage multiple agents directly within Search. These 'information agents' can proactively gather data and send notifications even when the user isn't actively browsing—for example, tracking a favorite athlete's sneaker collabs or monitoring stock market conditions. Google also introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash as the default model for AI Mode answers, alongside improvements to the Search box for more responsive inputs. The features will first launch for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers this summer.
Beyond passive monitoring, Google is expanding its booking agents, which can call local businesses to get price quotes or make reservations. The company also debuted an updated Antigravity vibe-coding tool that generates custom answer layouts, including interactive visualizations like black hole simulations. These 'super widgets' can assist with long-term planning such as diet tracking or coordinating a cross-country move. While the move deepens user reliance on Google's ecosystem, the company insists it isn't replacing web links—just making Search far more proactive than the era of '10 blue links'.
