Google's AI Overviews will show you advice from other people now
Google adds five new features to AI Overviews, including real user advice and subscription links.
Google has announced five enhancements to its AI Overviews in Search, aiming to provide more context and better source transparency. The most notable addition is the 'Expert Advice' section, which surfaces brief comments from discussion forums, social media, and other online sources directly within the overview. For example, searching for 'how to photograph northern lights' might show advice from a photography forum, with clickable links to the full discussion. This allows users to access community knowledge without leaving the search results.
Another key update focuses on news subscriptions: AI Overviews and AI Mode will now highlight links to users' subscribed news sources, making it easier to access full articles from preferred publishers like ZDNET. Google also improved source linking by placing links next to the specific text they support within the summary, rather than grouping them at the bottom. Additionally, a new 'explore additional sources' section appears below the overview, offering links to articles or analyses on different aspects of the same topic. Publishers can opt in via the Subscription Linking page.
