Google Expands ‘Results About You’ to Shield IDs, Fight Deepfake Abuse
Google just gave you a powerful new weapon against identity theft and AI deepfakes.
Google has significantly upgraded its 'Results about you' Search safety tool. Users can now request removal of search results containing sensitive government ID numbers like driver's licenses, passports, and Social Security numbers. The tool also streamlines reporting for non-consensual explicit imagery (NCEI), including AI-generated deepfakes. While removal only affects Google Search discoverability, it's a major step against identity theft, which saw over 1.1 million US cases reported last year. The feature launches first in the US.
Why It Matters
This directly combats the surge in AI-powered identity theft and non-consensual deepfakes, giving users critical control over their digital footprint.
