Google’s AI search summaries will now quote Reddit
Google's AI now pulls real human advice from Reddit and forums for search results.
Google has announced updates to its AI search features (AI Mode and AI Overviews) that directly integrate content from social media, Reddit, and web forums into search summaries. The new "preview of perspectives" feature surfaces firsthand advice from real people, labeled as "Expert Advice." Each linked source includes the creator's name, handle, or community name for quick identification. For example, a search on photographing the northern lights may show quotes from a photography forum alongside clickable links to the full conversation. This move addresses the growing trend of users adding "Reddit" to the end of queries to find authentic, non-SEO-optimized answers. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman previously predicted that "just about everybody using Google at this point will end up on Reddit."
Beyond forum quotes, Google is also adding related topic suggestions at the end of AI responses (e.g., linking reports on green space expansion when searching for urban planning). Another addition highlights links from news subscriptions in AI results for publishers that support linking, making trusted sources more visible. These changes aim to encourage more users to rely on AI search rather than manually sifting through traditional web results. By embedding real human perspectives directly into AI-generated summaries, Google hopes to provide richer, more trustworthy context without requiring users to hunt for forums or subreddits separately.
