Google's Gemini AI Now Answers Your Driving Questions via CarPlay

⚡Ask your car for restaurant tips and toll-free routes without touching your phone.

Deep Dive

Google is bringing Gemini-powered conversational navigation to Apple CarPlay, letting iPhone users ask hands-free, multi-step questions about destinations, routes, and traffic through Google Maps. Drivers can request restaurant recommendations, choose a destination, ask for directions that avoid toll roads, report traffic disruptions, and find stops along the route.

The rollout began Oct. 21 for US drivers, with international availability expanding.

Drivers activate Gemini by tapping its icon inside Google Maps on the CarPlay display. Google has not announced or confirmed its newer Personal Intelligence features for CarPlay, and it has not provided a complete compatibility list covering countries, vehicles, or Google Maps app versions.

  • You can ask for restaurant recommendations, toll-free routes, and traffic updates in one conversation.
