A new paper from top theorists introduces a 'fair-exchange contract' for data sharing among strategic agents without money. The mechanism ensures each agent receives as many data points as they provide, preventing free-riding. The resulting game has a clean structure: pure Nash equilibria exist, form a lattice, and can be computed in quadratic time. The maximal equilibrium is both truthfully implementable and globally Pareto-optimal, offering a tractable solution for consortia and healthcare.
