Google unveils Gemini-powered Googlebook laptops and vibe-coded widgets
New laptops, custom widgets, and AI agents coming to Android this year.
Google used its virtual Android Show: I/O Edition to unveil a slate of AI-driven updates across its ecosystem, headlined by the new Googlebook laptop line. Built from the ground up for Gemini Intelligence, Googlebook laptops will be manufactured by partners including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, launching this fall. The devices feature 'Magic Pointer' – an AI-powered cursor – alongside deep Android phone integration that lets users run phone apps directly on the laptop. Users can also create custom widgets using natural language descriptions via the new 'Create My Widget' feature, which first rolls out to Galaxy and Pixel phones this summer.
On the automotive side, Android Auto gets a major refresh with edge-to-edge display support, personalized widgets, and redesigned media apps for Spotify and YouTube Music. For the first time, Android Auto will support 60fps full HD video playback in supported cars from BMW, Ford, Hyundai, and others later this year. Gemini is rolling out broadly on Android Auto for hands-free queries and even food ordering via DoorDash. Meanwhile, the company is refining all 4,000 Android emoji with 3D depth. Creators gain 'Screen Reactions' for recording screen + face simultaneously (coming to Pixel first), and a partnership with Meta brings Ultra HDR, native stabilization, and night mode to Instagram on Android. Finally, Gemini's agentic capabilities now span multiple apps – e.g., snapping a flyer then finding tickets on Expedia – and Gemini in Chrome arrives on Android for web page summarization.
