iOS 27 drops iPhone X and SE 2nd gen support
iPhone 11 and newer get iOS 27, classic models left behind
Apple has released the public beta of iOS 27, with the stable version expected to roll out this September. The update brings new features but also drops support for several older iPhone models, including the iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and the second-generation iPhone SE. Users with these devices will no longer receive software updates.
Compatible models range from the iPhone 11 series (iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max) through the latest iPhone 17 lineup, as well as the iPhone SE (3rd generation). Notably, Apple has shifted its iOS version naming to use calendar years, similar to car model years—hence iOS 27 for 2027. This change began with iOS 26 last year. For users with unsupported iPhones, Apple recommends selling or trading in the device through retailers like Apple, Best Buy, or Amazon.
