Create rich, custom tooltips in Amazon Quick Sight

Amazon has introduced a significant upgrade to its QuickSight business intelligence platform with the launch of 'sheet tooltips.' This new feature moves beyond simple text labels, allowing dashboard authors to design fully custom tooltip layouts using a dedicated, free-form sheet editor. Authors can combine up to five different visual components—such as line charts, bar charts, gauge charts, KPIs, and text boxes—into a single, cohesive tooltip that renders dynamically when a reader hovers over a data point. The tooltip sheet filters data in real-time based on the hovered element, updating all embedded visuals instantly to provide rich, contextual insights without disrupting the user's flow.
This capability is designed to enhance data storytelling and exploratory analysis directly within the dashboard view. For example, hovering over a sales region in a map could trigger a tooltip showing a gauge chart for target achievement, a line chart of the monthly trend, and key metrics like revenue and units sold—all in one pop-up. The tooltips work with most chart types, including tables and pivot tables, and the same custom tooltip sheet can be reused across multiple visuals for a consistent user experience. Available to QuickSight Enterprise Edition users with Author or Author Pro permissions, the feature is configured through a new 'Interactions' tab in the visual properties panel, making advanced, multi-layered data context accessible directly at the point of inquiry.
