Hong Kong Tai Po fire panel delays report to end of October
Over 1 million files under review push committee past September deadline.
Hong Kong's independent committee investigating the city's deadliest fire in decades has postponed its final report by a month, to the end of October, citing complex issues and a large volume of documents. The judge-led panel, originally due to deliver in September, said it had sought approval from Chief Executive John Lee for the extension. It is processing more than one million files and other materials, and needs more time to analyse information from various parties to reach findings and recommendations grounded in a factual framework.

Why It Matters
Delays in the Tai Po fire report prolong public accountability and could slow safety reforms for Hong Kong residents.
