China pledges to be reliable neighbor for Mongolia, Wang Yi says

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Mongolia over the weekend, pledging that China will be a neighbor Mongolia can rely on. Speaking to President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Wang emphasized Beijing's stable and continuous policy toward Mongolia and its importance in China's neighborhood diplomacy. He called for closer alignment of the two countries' development strategies and deeper cooperation in infrastructure, trade, energy, critical minerals, green development, and the digital economy. Wang also urged multilateral collaboration through the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Mongolia’s President Khurelsukh responded by stating that bilateral trade is on track to reach US$20 billion this year. He reaffirmed that friendship with China is a major foreign policy priority and pledged that Mongolia will not take actions harmful to China’s interests due to its relations with other countries. The visit underscores China's efforts to anchor Mongolia's newly formed government within its economic orbit, as Beijing seeks to expand its influence in Central Asia.
