Pop-ups beat gradual frictions for high-impulsivity TikTok users, study finds

For participants with low impulsivity, all three interventions were similarly effective. For highly impulsive users, the explicit pop-up was significantly more effective than either gradual design—suggesting that subtle nudges may be ignored when self-control is low. The study challenges the assumption that gradual, less intrusive interventions are universally better. Instead, designers of digital well-being tools should tailor interventions to users' impulsivity levels.
