Apple unifies Sign in with Apple and Hide My Email under private.icloud.com

Apple is streamlining its privacy infrastructure by merging the relay domains for Sign in with Apple and Hide My Email. Starting later this summer, all new masked addresses generated by these services will use the domain private.icloud.com. For everyday users, the transition is designed to be seamless—existing addresses on legacy domains (e.g., @privaterelay.appleid.com) will continue forwarding mail without interruption. However, the behind-the-scenes change has real implications for app developers, corporate network admins, and email providers. Apple is advising these parties to review their account systems, email validation logic, and allowlists to explicitly permit incoming mail from the new domain while maintaining support for legacy domains. Failure to update filtering rules could result in legitimate Apple relay emails being accidentally marked as spam or blocked.

This move follows Apple's recent WWDC 2026 keynote, where the company emphasized privacy-focused AI features and deeper system integration. By consolidating its email relay infrastructure under a single domain, Apple simplifies long-term maintenance and ensures compatibility across services. The change also aligns with Apple's broader strategy of building privacy into its ecosystem—ranging from on-device AI processing to Private Cloud Compute.
