Apple’s New Siri With ChatGPT-Like Features Could Be Coming Soon

Apple is preparing a complete overhaul of Siri, positioning it as the centerpiece of its AI strategy for a planned WWDC 2026 reveal. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the reboot will introduce a dedicated Siri app with a Messages-like interface featuring chat bubbles and conversation history. More significantly, Siri will gain ChatGPT-like capabilities, including the ability to read content within other apps and provide personalized responses based on screen context. This moves Siri toward true agentic behavior, potentially allowing it to perform tasks like sending emails or ordering food on a user's behalf, activated via a dedicated button, voice command, or Dynamic Island control.

Apple's shift comes after pressure to respond to the explosive growth of ChatGPT and agentic AI. The company reportedly reversed its stance against a dedicated AI app, believing users are now more willing to share data for personalized assistance. While early previews show Siri interacting with Apple's own apps, a major challenge will be convincing third-party developers to enable this deep integration. To bolster its AI push, Apple may initially use Google's models while developing its own, and is considering companion hardware like an AI pendant or smarter AirPods. A new U.S.-manufactured Mac mini is also reportedly planned to attract developers needing affordable, powerful AI workstations.
