Apple warns of mercenary spyware attacks targeting 110 countries

Apple has issued warnings to users in 110 countries about sophisticated mercenary spyware attacks targeting devices like iPhones, iPads, and Macs. These attacks, often linked to nation states, aim to bypass encryption and access sensitive data, conversations, and device controls. The company describes these as highly targeted, resource-intensive operations costing millions of dollars, making them harder to detect and prevent.

Apple sends these alerts as 'Apple Threat Notifications,' which appear directly on affected devices. The company has previously issued such warnings multiple times a year, with alerts sent to users in over 150 countries since 2024. To mitigate risks, Apple recommends enabling Lockdown Mode, which restricts advanced web technologies, blocks suspicious attachments, and limits device connectivity. Users are also advised to keep their devices updated with the latest security patches.
