Apple rebrands Siri as Siri AI with multi-step dialogue and on-device security

At the WWDC conference held on Monday, Apple announced a major overhaul of its voice assistant, rebranding it as Siri AI. This was Tim Cook's final appearance as CEO before handing over to John Ternus on September 1st. Craig Federighi demonstrated that Siri AI can now maintain multi-step dialogues and work with personal data within applications, all while protecting user privacy through on-device processing or Apple's new Private Cloud Compute. The assistant is deeply integrated into the ecosystem, appearing in Dynamic Island, Spotlight, and the iPhone camera, which can now recognize objects in real time.

According to Goldman Sachs, Apple plans to expand Siri AI's capabilities by integrating third-party models, including Google Gemini and Anthropic's Claude, in the future. The new system will become available in September alongside the release of iOS 27 and the iPhone 18. Meanwhile, CNBC reported that Apple shares are trading near their highs, though traders expect a 3% fluctuation by week's end. This rebranding marks a strategic pivot for Apple, positioning Siri AI as a more capable and privacy-focused competitor in the AI assistant space.
