Anthropic's Claude Corps pays $85,000 to 1,000 early-career professionals

Anthropic has launched the Claude Corps fellowship program, offering 1,000 early-career professionals a 12-month, full-time position at $85,000 with benefits. The $150 million initiative aims to bring AI benefits to communities by matching fellows with partner nonprofits such as YMCA, Goodwill Industries, SoundOff, and the Reef Environmental Education Foundation. The first cohort of 100 fellows begins in October, with additional cohorts opening next year. Applicants must be 18+, have no more than two years of full-time work experience, and be authorized to work in the US. Anthropic will provide Claude training, mentorship from CodePath, office hours, an expansive token budget, and relocation support if needed.

The program directly creates jobs focused on using AI, distinguishing it from Anthropic's earlier policy papers and research on AI's economic impact. It contrasts with OpenAI Foundation's $250 million commitment, which lacks specific employment programs. The initiative is particularly timely for recent graduates facing a tightening entry-level job market, especially in coding and other white-collar roles increasingly augmented by AI. By embedding AI expertise in nonprofits, Claude Corps aims to offset AI's disruptive effects while building a workforce skilled in applied AI—potentially a model for responsible AI deployment.
