Anthropic raises Claude Code usage limits, credits new deal with SpaceX
Anthropic secures 300MW from SpaceX's Colossus 1 supercomputer to boost Claude limits.
At its Code with Claude developer conference in San Francisco, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei announced a major compute deal with SpaceX. The agreement grants Anthropic access to over 300 megawatts of capacity from SpaceX's Colossus 1 supercomputer in Memphis, Tennessee, which features more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs (H100, H200, and next-gen GB200 accelerators). As a result, Anthropic immediately doubled Claude Code's five-hour usage limits for Pro and Max plan subscribers, removed peak-hour reductions for Claude Code on those accounts, and raised API limits for its Opus model. The company also expressed interest in collaborating with SpaceX on building multiple gigawatts of orbital compute capacity to address the growing power and cooling demands of AI training.
This deal comes amid surging demand for Claude Code and other Anthropic products, driven by users migrating from OpenAI, increased enterprise adoption, and a shift toward multi-agent workflows. The company had previously faced backlash for introducing peak-hour usage limits and even briefly testing the removal of Claude Code from the $20/month Pro plan. Elon Musk, who previously criticized Anthropic (calling it 'hateful of Western Civilization'), reversed his stance after meeting with the team, stating he was 'impressed' and that 'no one set off my evil detector.' Anthropic has also signed massive compute deals with Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Nvidia to scale infrastructure further.
