Anthropic's Claude Now Builds Your Documents and Slides for You

Anthropic is combining its regular Claude chatbot with Claude Cowork, its tool for longer, multi-step jobs, into a single experience. Until now, users had to guess which version to open for quick questions versus hands-on work. Under the change, you simply say what you want — draft a report, dig into a topic, plan something — and Claude decides which abilities to use. The idea is one conversation that carries a project from blank page to finished work.

The bigger addition is Claude Docs and Claude Slides, now in beta for people on paid plans. Docs lets you write and edit documents right inside the chat. Slides builds presentations you can tweak, present, and download as PowerPoint or PDF files. Documents export to Google Docs or Microsoft Word. Shareable links mean teammates can open and edit the same project from a laptop or phone. Anthropic's own example: ask Claude to research a weekly report, write it in your usual format, flag anything missing, then turn the highlights into a deck — all using the same context.

Why the fuss? This pushes Claude directly into territory Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace have owned for decades. Instead of copying AI-written text into another app, you keep research, writing, and design in one place. It mirrors a wider industry shift: OpenAI recently folded its coding tool, Codex, into ChatGPT. Both companies are chasing business customers who want AI that finishes work, not just answers questions.

The catch is trust. When research, uploaded files, and connected apps all live inside one assistant, more of your sensitive business information flows through a single system. Anthropic says Claude asks permission before acting by default, but you can switch it to keep working on its own and only check in when something needs you. Companies will need clear rules about which connectors employees can use and what Claude may read. The new tools are also in beta and paid-only for now.
