Pivotal's Frontier Biodefense Fellowship: £6k-£8k stipend, 9-week London program

Pivotal, known for AI safety fellowships, is expanding into biosecurity with the Frontier Biodefense Fellowship. The nine-week program runs from August 3 to October 2, 2026, at LISA (London Initiative for Safe AI). It offers a £6,000–£8,000 stipend, travel and accommodation support, plus weekday meals. Fellows receive weekly 1:1 mentorship from researchers at Blueprint Biosecurity, SecureBio, SynX Therapeutics, Coefficient Giving, CLTR, and others. Group projects are encouraged, and strong projects can receive up to two months of extension funding, mentorship, and workspace—the extensions acceptance rate was ~90% in prior cohorts.

Eligibility is broad: anyone 18+ serious about biodefense can apply, including undergraduates, professionals, PhD candidates, and career-switchers without prior bio experience. Project areas include AIxBio, biohardening, detection, governance/policy, medical countermeasures (MCMs), mirror life, PPE, and strategic response planning. Fellows retain ownership of their research output, which can be a paper, policy brief, or blog post. Applications close June 2 (AoE) at fellowship.bio.
