Amazon's Alexa+ launches on-demand AI podcast generation
Ask Alexa to create a podcast on any topic, no scripts needed
Amazon has added a new capability to Alexa+ called “Alexa Podcasts,” which allows users to generate full podcast episodes on any topic by voice command. The feature is rolling out to U.S. customers today. When a user makes a request, Alexa+ automatically researches the topic, gathers information from its partner news sources, and generates a structured episode overview. Users can then tweak the episode’s length, tone, and focus before finalizing. Once set, AI-generated host voices narrate the podcast, and a notification is sent to the user’s Echo Show device and Alexa app. Episodes are saved in the app's “Music” and “More” sections for later replay.
Amazon emphasized that the feature relies on real-time data from partnerships with major news organizations, including the Associated Press, Reuters, The Washington Post, Time, Forbes, Business Insider, Politico, USA Today, Condé Nast, Hearst, and Vox Media, plus over 200 local U.S. newspapers. Beyond podcasts, Amazon is exploring custom news briefings and audio generated from users’ own documents. However, the launch reignites debates about AI-generated content reliability and its impact on traditional creators, especially for complex or breaking news.
