Amazon's New $75 AI Gadget Remembers Your Conversations

⚡Never forget a promise or doctor's advice again—but is your privacy safe?

Deep Dive

Amazon's Bee has released two new AI devices that aim to be your personal memory assistant. The $75 Bee Frontier can be worn on your wrist or pinned to clothes, while the $100 Bee Eclipse is a credit-card-sized gadget that magnetically attaches to your phone. Both listen to your everyday conversations and automatically create summaries, to-do lists, and calendar invites. For example, if you plan a dinner with friends, Bee will remember the date and time and add it to your calendar. It can also take lecture notes or record doctor's instructions.

The basic devices are free to use for conversation summaries and offer 14 days of memory. For $12 a month, Bee Pro gives you unlimited summaries, integrations with Amazon, Alexa, and other apps, plus a personal chat assistant. Bee says it uses a private security setup: it processes audio in real time and deletes it, never storing raw recordings. Transcripts are encrypted with keys only you control, so even Amazon can't access them unless you share them. You can also connect Bee to Alexa for hands-free access to your notes and to-dos.

The Bee works with Gmail, Google Calendar, and Outlook, so it can draft emails and set up meetings. You can upload photos or connect to Apple HealthKit to include wellness data in your insights. Both devices have a single button and an indicator light when recording. The Frontier is water-resistant, has a seven-day battery, and dual microphones. The Eclipse will be available soon. A redesigned mobile app and new desktop app accompany the launch.

The catch: wearing a always-listening device raises privacy concerns. While Bee says it doesn't store audio, you're still relying on their security. Also, the $12 monthly fee adds up. But for many, the convenience of never forgetting important details might be worth it.

Key Points
  • Bee Frontier costs $75, Eclipse costs $100—both turn conversations into notes and reminders.
  • Free plan gives 14 days of memory; $12/month Pro adds unlimited summaries and Alexa integration.
  • Bee claims it doesn't store raw audio and encrypts transcripts, but privacy risks remain.

Why It Matters

This could save you from forgetting important details, but you're trading some privacy for convenience.
