AM-FM: A Foundation Model for Ambient Intelligence Through WiFi

Your WiFi router could soon track your health and movements, all without a single camera.

Deep Dive

Researchers have unveiled AM-FM, the first foundation model for ambient intelligence using WiFi signals. Pre-trained on 9.2 million unlabeled samples over 439 days from 20 device types, it learns to interpret Channel State Information (CSI) for sensing. The model enables privacy-preserving detection of human presence, activity, and physiology through existing wireless infrastructure, showing strong performance across nine downstream tasks with improved data efficiency compared to task-specific models.

Why It Matters

This could enable smart homes and health monitoring at massive scale using the WiFi routers already in billions of homes.
