The AI model release landscape has entered hyperdrive in July 2026. According to the LM Market Cap tracker, 348 models are now cataloged across providers. The week of July 9 alone saw OpenAI drop six GPT-5.6 variants—Sol, Luna, Terra, each with a Pro tier—all boasting 1.1M token context windows, reasoning, and vision capabilities. Shortly after, Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5 (1M context, reasoning, vision) and Claude Fable 5 (also 1M context). xAI joined the fray with Grok 4.5 (500K context) and a Grok Latest variant. Other notable entries include Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3 (1M context, reasoning, vision), Meta’s Muse Spark 1.1 (1M context, open source reasoning), and several open-source models from Tencent (Hy3), Kuaishou (KAT-Coder-Air V2.5), and poolside (Laguna XS 2.1).
