Notable Gold-tier entrants—Alibaba Group, Visa, and Wells Fargo & Company—each contributed $200,000 to join. The Linux Foundation, which stewards AAIF, brings decades of open-source governance experience, including security audits, fundraising, and legal protection. This expansion follows the foundation's December 2025 launch and represents a major vote of confidence in Linux Foundation leadership.
AAIF already oversees key open standards for agentic AI: AGENTS.md, originally contributed by OpenAI, provides contextual instructions for coding agents in source code repositories; Model Context Protocol (MCP), created by Anthropic, standardizes how AI apps connect to external tools and data—now supported by OpenAI and others. The foundation also hosts Goose, Block's open modular agent framework for building local agentic workflows.
