New AI Platform CASCA Balances Performance and Carbon Emissions for Microservices
This open-source AI system could slash cloud costs and emissions simultaneously.
Researchers have unveiled CASCA, an open-source, microservice-based AI platform designed to automatically manage cloud services to meet both performance and sustainability targets. It allows cloud providers to intelligently reconfigure services in real-time to fulfill Service Level Objectives (SLOs) while maintaining developer privacy. Tested on a real media streaming setup, decision systems written in Bash, Rust, and Python successfully optimized the service, proving the platform's practical viability for the computing continuum.
Why It Matters
It directly tackles the trillion-dollar cloud industry's dual challenge of maintaining performance while reducing its massive carbon footprint.
