380 Wang Fuk Court households seek second visit to collect belongings

Hong Kong authorities are managing a complex recovery operation for residents of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, following a major fire. Deputy Chief Secretary Warner Cheuk Wing-hing stated that dedicated social workers have contacted more than 1,730 families from seven of the estate's eight towers to schedule initial visits for retrieving personal items between April 20 and May 4. Officials anticipate a 98% participation rate in this first phase. Concurrently, about 380 households have already expressed a desire for a follow-up, second visit to their homes.

Cheuk explained that the final number of requests for a second visit will likely change after residents assess the actual condition of their flats during the first round. He noted that units heavily damaged by the fire may have little left to salvage, potentially reducing demand, while less-affected flats might require additional time for packing. The government has committed to actively arranging further visits based on need, and families who have not yet made requests can coordinate through their assigned social workers.
