ROS Education Foundation’s 2026 Summer School draws 700+ engineers in Hangzhou
23 parallel tracks, 300+ institutions, and hands-on ROS2 training for the global robotics community.
The 2026 ROS Summer School, held in Hangzhou, China, successfully brought together more than 700 students, researchers, and industry professionals from over 300 institutions across China and abroad. Organized by the ROS Education Foundation and the China ROS User Group, the seven-day intensive program offered 23 parallel specialized tracks covering the full ROS tech stack—from foundational ROS2 development, TF2 coordinate transformation, and SLAM, to advanced topics like MoveIt2 manipulation, industrial ROS-I standards, multi-robot coordination, and integration with VLA and LLM. Each track was led by certified instructors from Open Robotics, the ROS-I Consortium, and top domestic labs, balancing theoretical instruction with hands-on debugging on dedicated hardware including mobile robots, collaborative arms, and LiDAR kits. Participants ranged from undergraduates and PhD candidates in robotics, automation, and mechatronics, to algorithm engineers and R&D managers from intelligent equipment and autonomous driving enterprises.
On the final day, all learning groups presented integrated projects covering indoor autonomous navigation, vision-based object grasping, multi-robot cooperative transportation, and lightweight industrial robot deployment. An international panel of ROS specialists provided technical reviews and optimization suggestions. All participants received official completion certificates co-recognized by the ROS Education Foundation and the China ROS User Group, along with a complete digital resource package of lecture slides, source codes, simulation files, and recorded tutorials. A permanent alumni community was established for continued collaboration. The event’s success underscores the growing global demand for structured, hands-on open-source robotics education, with future sessions planned in Singapore.
